I've decided to start a blog to keep in touch with my best friend from home. I feel like Facebook is impersonal, and this provides a more intimate update on her life.
Granted, all I'm actually doing is trying to make it seem like internet stalking is okay.
It's weird because she and I hate best friends. The whole concept is annoying, filled with giggles and inside jokes- not to mention catty back stabbing. What worries me more is that I've been away for a long time, and I'm not sure whether or not the term is appropriate to begin with. I hope it is, but I'm not familiar with the specific protocol. I guess that's why I clarified with "from home".
I love her dearly.

It was August. I was with an organizer who had just taken the two days they got off a month to visit Savannah. She told me she'd seen her best friend from forever.
ReplyDeleteI think that's when I realized that, despite how little we talk regularly, you and I, we'll always be some sort of best friends. We've got the same foundations, in a sense. No matter where we are in life, I'll at least know where you're coming from. I know Gwinnett. There's no sense in being embarrassed by it. You know my family and my concerns and the way I think about most things. And I know you.
That won't change, regardless of where we are in life. Even if we're not "best friends," we'll always have been best friends. We had friendship bracelets and inside jokes, despite how embarrassing that is. We may not always be close, but we can't be on each other's dead friends list either.
I mean. I'm assuming you're talking about me.
I reread this. It's a little too "best friends for life!!1!1!!"
ReplyDeleteThat's not what I meant. Focus on the "we'll always have been best friends" bit.
